DESCRIPTION:Weekly Hilly Road Rides : a.k.a Thursday Hills\nEach week\, we head out to find another cool climb to endure\, enjoy\, envelop and embrace.\nThursday Hills are a friendly way to explore the local elevation challenges\, with a different climb each week. \nWe’re usually out for around 2-3 hours and almost always head back to Station South for social drinks after [this is optional of course!]. We ride as a group until we reach the hills\, then every rider can take the ascent at their own pace until we re-group at the top\, pat each other on the back and be on our way as a group again. \n[Meet] >>  Station South Bike Benches \n[When] >>  5.50pm for a 6pm departure \n[Suitable for] >> Confident cyclists* used to riding with a group\, fast moving traffic and a speed of 22 – 28km/ph on the flat. \n[Bike required] >>  Road \n[What to bring] >>  Helmet\, water\, snacks\, clothes for the weather\, spare tube\, front + rear lights \n[Tickets] >>  All sign ups and detailed information for our various rides and cycling events are organised through Spond\, which is a platform we use solely for our ‘Pink’ rides. DESCRIPTION:Adults who have just learnt to cycle – or those thinking about returning to cycling : join us for a very gentle and short bike ride along the Fallowfield Loop.\nWe have bikes\, a trike* + helmets available to borrow for your first steps into group cycling.\nMeet : 9.45am @ The Station South ‘Walk + Bike’ container to get set up with your bike [if required] \nDepart : 10am \nDistance / speed / notes : We will cycle along the Fallowfield Loop for about 15 /20 minutes before making our return journey back to Station South for well deserved brews or soft drinks\, on us! \nPlease note – riders need to be able to start\, pedal\, stop and control the bike to join this ride. It is not suitable for riders not yet pedalling. \nClothing : Please wear comfortable clothing + trainers if possible\, tuck in loose fabric. \nEquipment : We have a range of ‘city’ and folding bikes so please arrive in good time to choose which type you’d like to ride. SUMMARY:Cycle Fest : Rides + Activities for Everyone\, All Day!
DESCRIPTION:The all singing and dancing bike event of the year is back! \nSave the date for Cycle Fest 2025. A full day of rides and activities for all ages and abilities.  \nCycle Fest 2025 features 12 led rides\, setting off at various times throughout the morning\, catering to all cycling abilities*. From balance biking and family rides to beginner-friendly routes\, as well as an advanced road challenges and everything in between. All the rides are purposefully celebrating Manchester’s finest parks and green spaces along their routes and where possible\, enjoying an activity or two at each green destination!  \nIn the afternoon when all the rides are back\, we’ll continue the celebration with a bike festival at Station South from 1pm. Our urban garden\, extending to the Fallowfield Loop\, will host an exciting lineup of cycling activities\, workshops\, and games for the whole community to enjoy. Including\, but not limited to : bicycle facepainting + cupcake decorating\, bike powered smoothies\, bike fixing\, bike art activities  + a pedal powered jukebox!  \nWhen the activities are exhausted for the afternoon and all of the bicycle cupcake icing has officially melted – the celebrations don’t stop there. We’ll have DJs on the terrace with delicious food and drinks to take you into the late spring night.  \nWatch this space and make sure to follow us on the socials to keep up to date with activity details as they trickle through the digital ether . We might even sample some of Wythenshawe Park’s very own honey\, before weaving along the river and back to Station South via quieter streets and the FLoop. \nGroup Leaders : Ellen + Simon \nRoute : [CLICK] \n7) P I N K (A) : Gravelly Honey Ride to Heaton Park\nTime : 8.50am for a 9am departure \nDistance / speed / notes : A fun and friendly bumpy 26 mile/ 43km ride over to Heaton Park celebrating canals and cool trails along the way. We’ll stop off in Heaton Park to sample some of their very own honey and we’ll say hi to the brand new awesome Bike It Walk It project before venturing back west via the gorgeous Boggart Hole Clough and Ashton Canal. \nGroup Leader : Oli Shaw \nRoute : [CLICK] \n8) P I N K (B) : Gravelly Irwell to Phillip’s Park\nTime : 8.50am @ Station South Benches \nDistance / speed / notes : A fun and friendly bumpy 32 mile / 53km ride along the River Irwell and venturing over to the gorgeous Phillips Park for a gravelly loop around north Manchester. We’ll tickle a bunch of canals\, quiet roads and Chorlton Water Park before heading back to Station South for the festivities. \nSuitable for : Gravel\, touring or Mountain Bikes. DESCRIPTION:Women who have just learnt to cycle – or those thinking about returning to cycling : join us for a very gentle and short bike ride along the Fallowfield Loop.\nWe have bikes\, a trike + helmets available to borrow for your first steps into group cycling.\nMeet : 9.45am @ The Station South ‘Walk + Bike’ container to get set up with your bike [if required] \nDepart : 10am \nDistance / speed / notes : We will cycle very slowly along the Fallowfield Loop for about 15 /20 minutes before making our return journey back to Station South. Please note – we have kept numbers for this ride at a minimum. \nYou are more than welcome to cycle your own ride. Speeds will vary across the group! Anna will stay at the back so noone gets left behind. \nPlease note – riders need to be able to start\, pedal\, stop and control the bike to join this ride. SUMMARY:Jill Woodward Exhibition Launch
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition celebrating Jill Woodward: cyclist\, artist – activist\, nurse & mother. \nJill Woodward (1948-2023) lived in Longsight in the 1970s and ‘80s and worked in this area as a nurse for much of her life. Recognised as a local nurse\, her identity as an artist was less well-known.  She left behind an extensive collection of work including cartoons\, sketches\, embroideries and placards\, recording her involvement with local campaigns\, such as the one to keep lollypop patrols\, national ones like CND.  She was involved in the solidarity group linking Manchester to Puerto Cabezas\, in Nicaragua\, and went there on a study tour in 1990. \nAmongst this busy life she brought up her son Peter and\, in her last years\, supported her elderly mother. \nJoin us in the viewing platform for an exhibition of her work. \n  \n  \n  \n
