SUMMARY:Picnic Club: Live Americana Music
DESCRIPTION:Picnic Club at Station South\, 975-977 Stockport Road\, Levenshulme M19 3NP\, on Wednesday 5th March 2025. Long-running acoustic/ Americana showcase\, now at its new location in Levenshulme\, 7.30pm\, adm free. The artistes: Jack & the Black Dog\, Taylor Giacoma\, David Holmes\, and Picnic Area. Admission is free but this is a WE SHALL OVERCOME event and we ask you to bring groceries for the Levenshulme Foodbanks please if you can. Please note: children are allowed if accompanied by an adult.\n\nOur hosts Picnic Area have been compared to everyone from Wilco and The Jayhawks to The Beatles and The Rolling Stones\, and delight in their genre-blurring approach to music. They are close to completing their new album\, and can definitely promise jangly guitars\, vocal harmonies and great tunes. http://www.reverbnation.com/picnicarea\n\nDavid Holmes is a veteran of the Manchester post-punk scene\, having played in many bands including the powerpop/ garage rock outfit The Things and more recently with the atmospheric alt country group Flicker Road. David is likely to play a mixture of songs from the different phases of his career. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aR7dd2faMj8…\n\nTaylor Giacoma will be known to many as the organiser of the wonderful Semitone Sessions music night in Marple and the musical entertainment at the Marple Food and Drink Festival. A genuine American\, she is also an extremely talented keyboardist\, singer and songwriter\, and as George Borowski has noted she channels the spirit and inspiration of Laura Nyro and Stephen Sondheim. https://taylorgiacoma.com/\n\nJack & the Black Dog are an exciting live band\, playing music they describe as digging “into the dark heart of skiffle\, mambo and country\, playing original songs of lost souls\, journeys\, outlaws and whisky”. Fronted by singer/ guitarist Ben Shirley and his sister Louisa Shirley (vocals)\, the lineup is complemented by The Blazing Snowmen’s highly reliable rhythm section of Phil Duncan (double bass) and Henric Mattsson (drums). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWj44ma7Itg
