Aspiring to be a storyteller in every sense\, I find joy in capturing life’s fleeting instances. Creativity is my driving force\, whether through photography\, poetry\, or any form of artistic expression. With each shot and verse\, I aim to celebrate and share the beauty of our diverse world.“ – Cansu \nJoin us on the launch night as part of the Levenshulme Pride programme at Station South for 2024 X

SUMMARY:Black Beacon Sound presents...Dig Deep with The Taxidermist
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Station South in August for an all-day-long event of record shop crate diggin’ and The Taxidermist in the mix! \n‘Dig Deep’ is an event concept hosted by record label and mobile shop\, Black Beacon Sound. The event welcomes some of the most sought after and upfront promoters\, DJs\, musicians\, and producers\, as well as friends and family of the label\, along with favourite out-and-out music aficionados\, and presents them with stacks of boss records from the BBS mobile record shop. \nA guest act is then invited to take on the ‘Dig Deep’ mix series\, challenged with completing a one-off live set under the conditions of: one hour to dig…one hour to prepare…and one hour to record a mix; playing in front of a live audience in the evening. \nEarlier on in the day the BBS mobile record shop crates are open to the public [families and children also welcome until 19:00]\, where vinyl heads can dig themselves\, and find label favourites\, rarities\, and second hand gems. \nCheck out footage of a previous event with DJ Woody & DJ Dougie P in Liverpool HERE.

 \ninstagram.com/bbsdigdeep
 – mixcloud.com/BBSDigDeep \nGuest: The Taxidermist \nThe Taxidermist\, aka Stacy Faye\, is a Levenshulme-based DJ\, radiohost\, and creative. She co-runs things over at ‘Amateur Hour’ bringing together new and established friends and DJs “for a well good time init”\, and is already regularly broadcasting on Reform radio\, too\, having fast become a reputable and adored local in and around the Manchester music scene. \nWith an inspired love and interest for music full of groove\, her mission is to deliver funked up grooves\, soul\, and disco\, via sweats and giggles. On that note\, expect output to feature a dance full of flavour\, with vocal bangers\, and tasteful house pumpers; embodied by the weird and wonderful gems to be found in the BBS record shop crates\, for this special one-off mix!

SUMMARY:Neurowavy Meet Up
DESCRIPTION:Neurowavy Monthly Meet-up \nAn informal meet-up for neurodivergent (wavy) folks \nWhen? \nThird Wednesday of every month. \nDrop in 7-9pm\nNo need to book\, just turn up! \nWho are we? \nWe are Timna (33) and Lauren (39). We connected after being diagnosed with ADHD and immediately saw the value in spending time with other like-minded (wavy) folk who just get it. \nWe wanted to make sure everybody had access to a safe space where they could truly be themselves\, something that didn’t seem to exist locally. \nIn June 2023 we established Neurowavy as a community for neurodivergent folks\, offering a monthly meet-up and ad-hoc events. \nWhat to expect? \nPut simply\, it’s an opportunity to spend a little time with some like-minded folk in a no-pressure setting. Super friendly\, super informal\, super relaxed. No expectations. \nPlease feel very welcome to come on your own – you won’t be the only one (but friends are more than welcome if you’d feel more comfortable that way). \nWhether you have been diagnosed or suspect you are neurodivergent (ADHD\, ASD\, etc.) this is a safe space for you! \nWhere to find us? \nFind us in the Viewing Platform (hang a left from the main bar). \nTheres a handy walkthrough on our Instagram @neurowavy if you’re new to Station South. \nIf it’s your first time attending one of our meet-ups\, we’ll have some tables reserved so just look out for our branding. Or feel free to let us know in advance that you’ll be popping down and we’ll keep an eye out for you. \nHow to contact us. \nInstagram @neurowavy \nDiscord Neurowavy \nE-mail neurowavy@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Between The Lines Book Club: Our Wives Under the Sea by Juliet Armfield
DESCRIPTION:Keep reading. It’s one of the most marvellous adventures that anyone can have. \nLloyd Alexander. \nIf you agree\, alight at Station South\, Levenshulme for Between the Lines\, the Station South book club! \nThis is an informal get together for those who love to read\, those who want to read more\, those who want to rediscover a love of reading\, find new books\, share thoughts and opinions\, listen to others\, feel inspired to pick up a book instead of turning to a screen all over a glass of whatever takes your fancy. \nWe invite you to Between The Lines Book Club where we will be discussing Our Wives Under the Sea by Juliet Armfield \nMiri thinks she has got her wife back\, when Leah finally returns after a deep-sea mission that ended in catastrophe. It soon becomes clear\, though\, that Leah is not the same. Whatever happened in that vessel\, whatever it was they were supposed to be studying before they were stranded on the ocean floor\, Leah has brought part of it back with her\, onto dry land and into their home. \nMoving through something that only resembles normal life\, Miri comes to realize that the life that they had before might be gone. Though Leah is still there\, Miri can feel the woman she loves slipping from her grasp. \nOur Wives Under The Sea is the debut novel from Julia Armfield\, the critically acclaimed author of Salt Slow. It’s a story of falling in love\, loss\, grief\, and what life there is in the deep deep sea.

SUMMARY:Between The Lines Book Club: Butter by Asako Yuzuki
DESCRIPTION:Keep reading. It’s one of the most marvellous adventures that anyone can have. \nLloyd Alexander. \nIf you agree\, alight at Station South\, Levenshulme for Between the Lines\, the Station South book club! \nThis is an informal get together for those who love to read\, those who want to read more\, those who want to rediscover a love of reading\, find new books\, share thoughts and opinions\, listen to others\, feel inspired to pick up a book instead of turning to a screen all over a glass of whatever takes your fancy. \nWe invite you to Between The Lines Book Club where we will be discussing Butter by Asako Yuzuki \nGourmet cook Manako Kajii sits in Tokyo Detention Centre convicted of the serial murders of lonely businessmen\, who she is said to have seduced with her delicious home cooking. The case has captured the nation’s imagination but Kajii refuses to speak with the press\, entertaining no visitors. That is\, until journalist Rika Machida writes a letter asking for her recipe for beef stew and Kajii can’t resist writing back. \nRika\, the only woman in her news office\, works late each night\, rarely cooking more than ramen. As the visits unfold between her and the steely Kajii\, they are closer to a masterclass in food than journalistic research. Rika hopes this gastronomic exchange will help her soften Kajii but it seems that she might be the one changing. With each meal she eats\, something is awakening in her body\, might she and Kaji have more in common than she once thought? \nInspired by the real case of the convicted con woman and serial killer\, “The Konkatsu Killer”\, Asako Yuzuki’s Butter is a vivid\, unsettling exploration of misogyny\, obsession\, romance and the transgressive pleasures of food in Japan.
