News from the Bike Station | November 2025

Happy Winter Wheeling from the Bike Station!

We hope you’ve had a great month of cycling around the place, as we certainly have! The community cycling of Station South has enjoyed an absolutely fantastic array of varied bike events, rides and a mega schools programme of wonderment thrown in for good measure as well..

Station Schools

From 13-17th October, we celebrated National Cycle to School Week in Levenshulme and for the second year running, we boosted the campaign by bringing extra energy to six local primary schools who were eager to get involved. Every child received a ‘bike passport’ to stamp each day they cycled or scooted in, with three or more stamps earning a cool bike-themed prize. The response was incredible: nearly 600 children completed their passports! Thanks to generous donations from TfGMMCR ActiveKeep Pedalling, and BikeRight, we’ve gathered a huge haul of bike goodies and we’ll be delivering them all by bike trailer this week.

Lights Up : Volume III | Monumental Success!

We are still slowly coming down from the explosion of empowering night energy from Lights Up on 8th November! Our collaborated event with Bee Pedal Ready illuminated the night on wheels with over 200 cyclists, weaving through the darkest corners of the city and reclaiming the night before heading over to Victoria Baths for bike poetry, hot food and brews as well as an incredible exhibition by MMU students in response to the Lights Up movement. It couldn’t have been done without the remarkable 35 volunteer ride marshalls, first aiders and mechanics > we salute you! And we are already plotting the fourth edition on 7th November 2026, so grab yourself an early diary entry!

Word from the Workshop

What has Mechanic Mary got brewing this month?

“It’s cold, it’s windy, it’s rainy. The days are getting shorter. Does this stop us cycling? Of course not! And to help you along we’ve got a couple of sweet deals.

  • Knog Plugger front light — waterproof (thank goodness) and 350 lumens. £37 → £20.

  • Need more lumens for your lucre? Knog Blinder Road 400 — does exactly what it says. £70 → £40

  • Winter or not, someone still wants your steed. Kryptonite Kryptolok — normally £60, now £45.

  • Thinking ahead to Christmas? Treat yourself (or someone you like) to a multi-tool packed with essentials. Only £10. You’d be Christmas crackers to miss it.”

Please note, our opening hours will be reduced for winter, starting from 1st December and throughout January. We’ll be open Wednesdays and Saturdays 10-6pm.

Don’t miss our Festive Family [Bike] Wheel Wreath Workshop!

 Plea for help!

Our much-loved community bike pump in the garden – which we fundraised for so everyone could use it 24/7 – has been vandalised. Sadly, repairing a key part will cost £132. If you’re able to spare a pound or two to help us get it fixed, we’d be incredibly grateful so that the bikes, buggies, wheelbarrows + trailers of Levenshulme can stay inflated! You can donate online here or in the cafe to help us get it fixed asap. Thanks!

Watch this space for next month’s end of year special highlighting the best moments from 2025.  Cycle safe : and please remember – bike lights, gloves, high vizzies and snoods at the ready!
