ABOUT US

We are a destination cycle café, bar, workshop, urban garden and community hangout in Levenshulme. Station South sits proudly in the beautifully restored Levenshulme South Station building, saved from falling into disrepair and given a modern purpose as a different kind of travel and community hub.

Where it all began…

In 2017, a group of local residents formed Station South CIC (Community Interest Company) to prevent Levenshulme’s former railway station from decaying beyond repair. Alongside the wider community, Abigail Pound, Mark Jermyn, and Pauling Johnston developed an inspiring vision for giving the station a new lease of life, in a way that would serve the people of Levenshulme and beyond.

A shared labour of love

Following a successful crowdfunding campaign which saw over 1,000 incredible individuals contribute to Station South’s future, and with the funding and support of other organisations, the transformation of the building into something far more than bricks and mortar went from vision to reality.

Station South Today

The café, bar, bike workshop and urban gardens are now evolving and growing together to deliver fantastic hospitality in the heart of Levenshulme. The range of events, projects and initiatives on offer involve people from different communities, locally and across Greater Manchester.

Station South is a place for art, culture, ecology, heritage, music, events, food and drink, exhibitions and more, curated and made possible with the talent and creativity of the team and the wider community.

Our Location

We’re on the Levenshulme high street, the bustling A6 or Stockport Road and we sit atop the Fallowfield Loop greenway. A perfect pit stop whether you are walking, cycling, scooting or skating along the route. We’re almost halfway along the “FLoop”. Gorton and Debdale Park and Reservoir are accessible to the East, and Fallowfield and Chorlton to the West; via a traffic-free path and wildlife corridor.

In the Café & Bar

Barista-made coffee; cakes, bakes and pastries; a licenced bar boasting local beers, fantastic wines, and expertly made cocktails, as well as an extensive range of craft soft drinks. We take good drinks seriously – for cycling pit stops, dancing fuel, or a long, lazy catch up, and everything in between.

And to eat? Our seasonal menus change throughout the year, bringing you the best produce in fresh, delicious, and nutritious dishes. From breakfast and brunch through to evenings, enjoy a bowl of chips or a big breakfast muffin (the Manc Muffin), or dine with friends with small plates, burgers and more.

On Sundays, we roast. From 1pm every Sunday, locally-sourced meat or a terrific veggie option are accompanied by stacks of roasties, seasonal veg, gravy you could drink by the jug, and fluffy roasties. They don’t say we’re the best in Manchester for nothing!

All of this can be enjoyed in our stunning building – split into two bright, social spaces. The Main Hall enjoys a beautiful dancefloor and vaulted ceiling, while the “Viewing Platform” overlooks the Fallowfield Loop with windows over the cycle path and our urban garden.

The Green Hub

Outside, the sun-drenched (when the sun shines!) terrace is dressed in festoon lighting and planted with native hedging and wildflowers as we develop the gardens  to increase the biodiversity throughout our green space. Beyond the terrace, wander through the gardens that we’re lovingly “rewilding”, or visit the more structured areas where accessible raised beds and herb gardens are thriving.

The Bike Station

Our bike workshop is a place you can feel comfortable calling in for a bit of advice about your wheels or booking in for a full service. Staffed by friendly, approachable and expert mechanics, you’re in safe hands in the Bike Station.

Here you’ll find everything you need for your own bike – or be able to hire one to take for a spin. From advice, repairs and accessories to a quick check-over, come and say hello or book in.
