Picnic Club: Live Americana Music

February 5 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Long-running acoustic/ Americana showcase, now at its new location in Levenshulme, 7.30pm, adm free. The artistes: The Blazing Snowmen, Picnic Area, From The Annexe, Kev Shutt . Admission is free but this is a WE SHALL OVERCOME event and we ask you to bring groceries for the Levenshulme Foodbanks please if you can. Please note: children are allowed if accompanied by an adult.

Kev Shutt (Kevin Shufflebottom) was a former member of one of Manchester’s most melodic bands, Corporal Jones, and contributed greatly to their repertoire. Since the Covid lockdown he has been a prolific in his songwriting; album releases have included the Wilcoesque “Spinning yarns” and the more new-wave influenced “Mysterious fishhook” which brings back memories of The Vapors and XTC. Kev can also turn his hand to low-key reflective acoustic songs and this gig will showcase his eclectic songwriting. https://kevshutt.bandcamp.com/

From The Annexe are a highly melodic Americana/ folk rock collective formed by Graham Larkin, formerly of the much-missed Random Lurchers, and featuring the wonderfully pure lead vocals of Karen Heywood. Their CD album release, “Life”, is highly recommended, and all money from CD sales goes to Oasis Relief, a charity providing safe water to communities in Zambia. https://fromtheannexe.com/music

Our hosts Picnic Area have been compared to everyone from Wilco and The Jayhawks to The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, and delight in their genre-blurring approach to music. They are close to completing their new album, and can definitely promise jangly guitars, vocal harmonies and great tunes. http://www.reverbnation.com/picnicarea

Our headliners The Blazing Snowmen have been described as “Alan Bennett backed by the Lancashire Doors” and are one of Manchester’s most interesting and longest established bands. Their observations of human foibles are expressed in their sardonic satirical lyrics, often at their own expense, as they reflect on expanding waistlines and recently-developed tastes for asparagus. They will also have a new album out any time shortly! The Blazing Snowmen
