The gardens at Station South were co-designed and built with the local community for people and nature. Plants we have found, been gifted, sowed, divided or they’re arrived by themselves. Seeds are saved and swapped. Materials reclaimed, reused and recycled.
Our garden at Tatton represented the work we have been doing around the cafe to both celebrate the environmental steps taken by our residents and volunteers but to share and inspire others to take community action. We were excited to show off the hard work of our volunteers in reviving nature and increasing biodiversity in an urban setting.
Everything was cycled over to Tatton Park by our Green Hub volunteers and Bike Station community.
The different areas of our feature garden showcased things we have done at Station South:
– weaving a willow knee rail using traditional panelling methods to stop people tumbling down the embankment
– methi (aka fenugreek) was planted in honour of our first Bangladeshi volunteer and our sharing of recipes
– a mini cycle track represented the ‘learn to ride’ bike track for little people on station green
– bramble, wildflowers, pear tree and birch logs represented the railway embankment, which runs along the Fallowfield Loop greenway, a vital wildlife habitat and wildlife corridor.
-the Green Hub where we grow our food was represented with a companion planted veg patch
– the wider Station Green site was represented with a bike trellis and hardy and tropical looking species we have introduced that bring colour and interest as well as wildlife value and will evolve overtime as Station South will with our community.
Everything that we used we brought back and re-homed in the Station South gardens for everyone to enjoy.
