Levenshulme. We are a suburb who know who we are. We know how to do arty things, have cultural mash ups and be a significant and bold place within the City of Manchester, with its nurturing, occasional hug. We’re connected but distinct. A suburb with our finger on the pulse and creativity pouring out of the rows of terraced houses, late-night takeaway chats and walks round the abundance of beautiful green spaces. We do our own thing, with many community voices in the mix and the results are always original and colourful.

Station South know this, not least because of the energy we have witnessed time and again when it comes to grassroots, creative collaboration with people in the community to make fun stuff happen from nothing but an idea.

Collaboration MIF19 x Station South – Out Of Hours

We remember fondly, our collaboration with local people and Manchester International Festival back in 2019 when we put on a triumph of bikes, people and disco under the Fallowfield Loop tunnel at Station South HQ.

The ‘Disco Night Bike Extravaganza: OUT Of HOURS’ , part of 2019’s selection of Festival In My Neighbourhood events was a great celebration of local creatives and a DIY attitude, with a bit of expert support off the team at MIF to help make it happen. We can’t wait to do it all again when we get open.

So to rekindle the union of Station South and MIF in the interim of us getting open, we see no better way than to shout about the MIF 2021, Your City, Your Festival programme of events on the back and the front of our giant billboard. have you seen it yet. It’s hard to miss! Thanks to MIF for letting us host your campaign and reach out to us here in Levenshulme. No doubt many of us will be venturing into town on the 192 to take advantage of the festival fun.

This is just a little bit of what to expect for this years celebration of all things Manchester at the festival:

Manchester International Festival returns this summer from 1 – 18 July. Join friends, family and fellow Mancunians for a celebration of your city, with live and online events, free outdoor art trails, family activities, plus food and drinks and free gigs and DJs every day at Festival Square in Cathedral Gardens.

This year, it’s a different kind of festival, stripped back in some ways, with innovation through limitation due to covid restrictions. This brings more local creative opportunities, more ways to engage with and showcase artistic folks here in Manchester and link in their work to an international audience.

Your City, Your Festival – Free MIF Events For All The Family

Your City, Your Festival is crammed with family friendly and free events throughout the 18 days. So we say, get on your bikes and into the City of Manchester and help to celebrate the work of local and international people involved in the events that are programmed. Some are even online for those still taking extra safety precautions. Have a look at the list of events here

We can probably all agree this year that MIF feels extra magical, because we’ve all missed our dose of arts and culture so much. Enjoy the festivities.
