Happy New Year [ISH] from the Bike Station!

We hope that you found some time to slow down and take a break over the holidays, whether you were celebrating Christmas or not – and feel suitably restored and energised for 2026 cycling plans!

January can be a bit of a bleak month to ride but with new year’s resolutions still vaguely a priority, we like to think it’s a great opportunity to smash some fitness wishes and get some miles behind you. Here at Station South, we have a few fabulous ideas and offers to help keep you pedalling. Come and play!

Beat the January Blues + Ride Blue Instead!

We are delighted to launch our brand new regular Blue [intermediate] ride plans for 2026!

Rides will be organised through our SSCC Blue group on Spond. Via this platform, you can join our club [for free] and come get involved with some of our regular rides..

What does a Blue ride look like?

Blue rides usually cover distances between 15km and 50km, but may branch up to 70 – 80km.. Routes favour cycle paths, canals, light gravel, quiet roads, and small climbs. Rides are mostly unpaced or run at a clearly advertised relaxed pace, with the group riding together throughout. If this has peaked your interest, why not join the Blue community today!?

Free Bike Clinics in February!

To help keep your wheels [+ infinite amount of other moving parts on a bicycle] rolling through the dark, wet and salty months, why not come along to one of our free Winter Bike Clinics at the Bike Station? Free 1:1s with your bike and the experts throughout the month. Take a look at the link below for plenty more information and how to book your slots.

Wednesdays 10 – 12noon | Throughout February

Plea for Help!

We have been donated these three gorgeous bikes to loan out for our adult cycle training sessions and beginner rides. To bring them back to wheeling health they need a bit of time, love and, er, some expensive parts.. If you have a few quid to pop in the community pot to help restore them to working splendour, we [+ the future cyclists] would be so grateful!   Thank you

Save the Date! CYCLEFEST is back for ’26!

If all this talk of winter is a bit much, allow us to look forward to the glorious months of Spring when once again, we shall be hosting our third Cycle Fest extravaganza! A whole day of rides for every ability, cycling sessions, activities, workshops, food, music and bike vibes!

The programming is underway – if your community group, pop-up workshop or bike project would like to showcase your great work at Cycle Fest ‘26 and help promote your activities, please drop Anna a line : community@stationsouth.co.uk, we’re after cool and unusual activities that the public can participate in. We will also be looking for volunteers to help on the day ⭐ let us know if you’d like to come + get involved!

This March : Rides for Women | The Mini Series

Watch this space for our collection of women’s cycling activities, rides, films and workshops – coming to south Manchester around International Women’s Day [8th March]. The final timetable of wonderment will be included in next month’s newsletter and on our socials..

Word from the Workshop

“Well, we’re nearly at the end of January. A month that suffers so much disparagement. And rightly so. It’s brutal. Short days. Bad weather and no money. But even this morning I looked out at the bright sunshine and felt that Spring isn’t far away.
The January Blues haven’t stopped the intrepid cyclists of Levenshulme, and we’ve had plenty of customers. If you’re thinking about dragging out the trusty steed, but not sure what state it’s in, then bring the faithful beast into The Bike Station and we can see what needs to be done.”

Mary Clark, Mechanic in the Bike Station
